For you bass fishermen. I have been working very hard to find out about the black bass. The big ones have not spawned yet. That means the smaller ones have not even started. When I caught and released several big bass today they were not even close to spawning. They were around cover and under docks in 14-22 ft. They had crawdads and bluegill in their mouths and were pre-spawn feeding. This may be a surprise to some of you but is true. Walleye are right with them but in smaller numbers. We need some heat to put them on the beds. Some are there but not very many. Scuba Steve Knows.

Norfork Lake Water Conditions
Thursday, April 22nd, 2010Norfork Lake is at 555 and dropping slowly. Main Lake is very clear and is in the late 60’s. Creeks are also clear most of the way back. Harvey Reports Crappie fishing has slowed with some already spawned, some spawning and some still full of eggs. He thinks they will move back to the brush piles in a few days if we get some rain to stir up the creeks a bit. Bink reports the night bite is slowing and the morning top water bite is increasing rapidly and is now the best. The best overall bites are from 6:30 AM to 9Am and 6:PM to dark. A fellow from Wisconsin caught 70 Bass on Tuesday with the largest 24 inches. Another from St. Louis, who fishes top water only, says the fishing is great. He practices catch and release only. Catfishing has also slowed due to the Gar prespawn feeding on anything they can get a hold of. Gar fishermen, this is the time. Giant carp are moving to the backs of creeks now and are beginning to spawn. Walleye are in the shallow brush around mainlake points and on the Islands.
